the republican house majority leader may have known about former cia director david petraeus' extramarital affair before the president did. that's according to aides to congressman eric cantor who tell us he found out from an fbi employee concerned that national security might have been breached as a result of the affair. cantor was told on october 27th. president obama didn't find out about the affair until after election day. congressional leaders from both parties are upset that neither they nor the president were informed until late last week. >> obviously this was a matter involving a potential compromise of security. and the president should have been told about it at the earliest date. >> reporter: a u.s. official said there was no breach of security as a result of the affair. a cantor aide says the congressman called the fbi's leadership to report the information he got on october 31st. but according to "the wall street journal," the fbi's probe had already been under way for months. scandal that forced out cia director david petraeus. forced him to resign. general john allen, the commander of u.s. and nato forces in afghanistan is now under investigation for alleged inappropriate communications with jill kelley. now investigators are said to be looking into the 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails and other documents that he sent to her. kelley, of course, is the florida woman whose original complaint to the fbi about threatening e-mails inadvertently exposed the affair between general petraeus and paula broadwell. meantime a team of fbi agents searched broadwell's home in charlotte, north carolina, overnight, and spent nearly five hours there wrapping up just after 1:00 in the morning. "wall street journal" is reporting that the fbi agent who launched the petraeus investigation himself is under investigation. in part because he sent shirtless pictures of himself to jill kelley. jill kelley, the woman who kicked off all of this investigation, by complaining about the e-mails that she was getting from the petraeus mistress. so the agent, who knew kelley, alle

boylan. colonel, thank you for joining me. when did you last speak to david petraeus? >> i spoke with him last night and we exchanged some correspondence this morning. >> how would you describe his state of mind? >> well, i think his state of mind is fine. i would suggest, though, that he is very well aware of everything that's going on, how much hurt he has caused his family, the implications of him resigning and the poor judgment and decisions that he made that led to this. >> colonel, would you say that there's any part of general petraeus' state of mind that regrets resigning? the reason i ask that is that he was interviewed by the fbi three, four weeks ago and clearly didn't resign as a result of that interview, which must have been the moment he realized this was all potentially going to come out. and there is a suggestion in some reports that he believed for awhile he may be able to hang on to his job. >> well, i think he definitely regrets the reasoning behind why he had to resign. you have to understand the internal makeup of david petraeus. 37 plus years in uniform, the morals,

involving the future of general david petraeus, director of the cia. talk about this for a second. you and chuck and i have been communicating about it. i'm told that he was at the white house yesterday, that while the people he was supposed to meet with yesterday at langley were told he had gone for a meeting with the president, in fact, did not see the president personally yesterday, that he is expected to see the president later today. this is still all in progress. that it is not now accurate to say that he will be leaving the administration or that any resignation has been offered or requested. but as we all know, there have been some tensions. a lot of controversy over benghazi. he and the president were never close initially during the transition period when the president was running for office and then during the transition when he was coming into office. and brian, david petraeus has been a star and a star player, but this has been an awkward transition at best over at the cia. anything you want to add to that are or check? >> some of the initial coverage when he was named a f
